Food for Thought

Hi! From me to you. I want to take a moment to document my thoughts about a subject so important to me. The subject is why we do what we do and with great passion. In other words, what could very well be described as "our purpose in life". This as well can be viewed as "our assignment given by a Higher Power" in life if one wants to go there. A subject that takes us down a road towards what is beyond ourselves and not quite self-serving. I believe without a doubt that what is our purpose or assignment in life involve a string of events, focused effort, that touch the lives of others even though not necessarily our intention. Our purpose can be far reaching. Days, months, decades, or even beyond into others' lives. Some of you reading this might wonder what do this topic have to do with art. Something to consider, if "art imitates life" or "life reflects art" then isn't the responsibility of the artist to be a truth teller of events and issues in the eyes of humanity? I know, those are some rather big shoes to wear. Right! If creating art is our purpose or assignment, most often monetary gain isn't the primary reason why we do what we do. Social issues, humanity, global concerns, family, relationships, emotions, and feelings are our masterpieces. Whether created in realism, abstract, gestures and voice on stage, or in other creative expressions. These topics of expression most often are topics of discussion that most can relate to. So next time, whether the creator of art or an observer, a most justifiable question might be, what is the artist saying, or why did he title his work as such? I’m passing the ball to you as food for thought.
